The registered apprenticeship program is an industry-driven, high-quality career pathway where an individual obtains paid work experience, related instruction, mentorship, and a portable and nationally-recognized credential. What is a registered apprenticeship?
U.S. DOL Registered Apprenticeship Program is an industry-driven, high-quality career pathway where employers can develop and prepare their future workforce, and individuals can obtain paid work experience, related instruction, mentorship, and a portable and nationally-recognized credential.
Why pursue an apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships allow you to earn while you learn. Employers pay your wages and often provide for the cost of your tuition while you earn a nationally-recognized, portable credential for life.
Is there in-classroom/related instruction?
The Innovate Birmingham I Am Bham Software Engineering Bootcamp serves as the pre-apprenticeship, the related instruction component for the apprenticeship program. If you are an Innovate Birmingham sponsored participant, you will receive in-classroom training. If you are a Central Six sponsored participant, you will receive online training to coincide with the 14-week in-classroom training, as well as weekly in-person mentorship during regular weekly office hours at Innovation Depot. The first cohort of this pre-apprenticeship began May 20th, 2019, and each cohort thereafter will be eligible for the apprenticeship program. Those who do not complete the pre-apprenticeship program will have the opportunity to take a competency assessment to test into the apprenticeship program which will be sent to you following your application submission. On the application, please indicate whether or not you are in the process of completing the pre-apprenticeship program (only the coding bootcamp that began May 20th, 2019, or later).

Where will I receive on-the-job training?
Our employer partners will interview each candidate to determine employment eligibility. Once a job offer is extended and accepted, the apprentice will be employed during the day and receive on-the-job training while at work.
How long is the information technology apprenticeship?
Roughly 1.5 years (2,846 on-the-job training hours).
How much money will I make?
Each apprentice receives competitive entry-level wages plus applicable benefits based on company eligibility requirements. Wage increases also occur at regular intervals upon successful completion of on-the-job training and satisfactory job performance as determined by the company.
Who is eligible?
Individuals 18 years of age or older, residing in one of the following counties in Alabama: Jefferson, St. Clair, Walker, Blount, Chilton, or Shelby. The individual must have either a Driver’s License or State ID.
How do I apply?

Following your application submission, you will receive additional information, including day/time to interview and a skills assessment if applicable. Please bring a resume to the interview. Following the interview, you will be contacted directly by the company if you are offered a position in the apprenticeship program.
