Information Technology Apprenticeship Program

1.5 Year Program

The Central Six Information Technology Apprenticeship Program prepares an individual with the technical skills needed for a successful career in the information technology industry, focusing on software development. The registered apprenticeship program is an industry-driven, high-quality career pathway where an individual obtains paid work experience, related instruction, mentorship, and a portable and nationally-recognized credential. As an apprentice, you will “earn as you learn,” working full-time for one of our employer partners.

In the Central Six Information Technology Apprenticeship Program, an apprentice will develop skills in C#, React, JavaScript, and SQL, learning how to write simple programs, as well as test and debug programs. An apprentice will also learn how to classify end user problems, document problem solutions, and perform data analyses. An apprentice will also receive mentorship and professional employability skills training throughout the program.

Those interested in the apprenticeship program may apply online through the links below. Apprenticeship applications open Monday, September 30th, 2019, and are due by Wednesday, October 30th, 2019, by 5:00 PM CST. Apprenticeship programs help employers recruit and develop a talent pipeline of highly-skilled workers that helps grow their business. An apprenticeship ensures workers develop the right skills, minimize liability costs through appropriate training of workers, and increase retention of workers.

As the employer, you are responsible for all wages paid to your apprentice while they are at work. There are grants available that may offset the cost of wages. Please contact Kristen Holder at Central Six AlabamaWorks! at kholder@centralsix.org and 205-719-3243 for more information.
